North Calgary Water Servicing Project Progresses to Contract C2
The City of Calgary is continuing work on the major North Calgary Water Servicing project, which will deliver a crucial 22-kilometre water feeder main and multiple support facilities to our growing communities and regional partners.
What is the Project and Why is it Needed?
The North Calgary Water Servicing project includes a new 22-kilometre water feeder main and ten support facilities running north from the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant. Once complete, it will deliver 100 million litres per day of clean, safe, and reliable drinking water to existing and future northwest communities and regional partners.
It provides essential water supply for future population growth while adding vital redundancy to our overall city water distribution system. The feeder main path runs from near Stoney Trail and Nose Hill Drive, crossing under Crowchild Trail to 144 Ave N.W., and connects to the Northridge Feeder Main at 144 Ave and 14 Street N.W.
Current Progress & Upcoming Schedule (Contract C2)
- Contract C1 Update: Work along Rocky Ridge Road N.W. and 144 Ave N.W. has successfully concluded the main pipe installation phase, with crews currently wrapping up landscaping and final road paving.
- Contract C2 Launch: Crews are now preparing to install another six kilometres of the feeder main along the centre median of 144 Ave N.W., moving eastward from 69 Street N.W. to just west of Sage Hill Drive N.W.
Subject to weather and other factors, the upcoming milestone schedule includes:
- October 13 – 19: Hydrovacing in various areas, resulting in minor traffic disruptions.
- October 19 – 26: Signage and traffic/detour setup along 144 Ave N.W.
- October 26 – November 16: Feeder main installation moving westward from Shaganappi Trail N.W. to the Nolan Hill N.W. intersection.
- November 16 – 23: Feeder main installation at and near the Nolan Hill Blvd N.W. intersection (Note: This section is complex and weather-dependent; it may be delayed until spring 2027).
- November 23 – December 11: Feeder main installation from the Nolan Hill N.W. intersection westward to Sarcee Trail N.W.
Winter Pause: Construction will pause for the winter in mid-December and resume in early spring 2027, continuing through to fall/winter 2027. Feeder main installation west of Sarcee Trail to 69 Street and east of Shaganappi Trail to Sage Hill Drive is scheduled for spring 2027.
What to Expect: Citizen and Business Impacts
- Traffic Flow: Two-way traffic will remain maintained on 144 Ave N.W., but expect rotating lane closures.

- Intersection Impact: The first expected intersection closure will be at Nolan Hill Blvd in November/December 2026, though weather could push this into 2027.
- Environment: Residents can expect an increase in noise, dust, and construction truck traffic. The City does not expect vibration impacts to affect private properties.
- Construction Hours: Standard working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays, and 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Hours may occasionally be extended to meet project timelines.
