Have Your Say: 160 Avenue N.W. Functional Planning Study

The City of Calgary is beginning a Functional Planning Study for 160 Avenue N.W., a future roadway that will play an important role in connecting northwest communities as our city continues to grow.

This study is focused on planning a new east–west roadway that will improve mobility, safety, and transportation choices in the area, while ensuring future development is supported by thoughtful, well‑designed infrastructure.

What Is Being Planned?

The 160 Avenue N.W. Functional Planning Study will develop a long‑term plan for a new roadway connecting:

  • Shaganappi Trail N.W. / Highway 772
  • Mountain View Road N.W.
  • 24 Street N.W. / Panorama Road N.W.

The study will look beyond vehicle traffic alone. The planned roadway is intended to include:

  • Pathways and multi‑modal connections to future neighbourhoods in the Glacier Ridge Area Structure Plan area
  • Active transportation infrastructure, such as shared‑use pathways for people who walk and wheel
  • Safe, well‑designed travel options for all users, whether you drive, cycle, walk, wheel, or take transit

This work builds on previously approved plans for Glacier Ridge and is a key step toward finalizing how 160 Avenue N.W. may be designed and built in the future.

Why This Matters for Ward 2

As northwest Calgary grows, thoughtful planning is essential to ensure communities remain connected, safe, and accessible. Planning ahead helps the City balance transportation needs, improve safety for all travel modes, and support future residential development while protecting quality of life for nearby neighbourhoods.

This study does not mean construction is imminent. Instead, it establishes a framework that will guide future decisions, design work, and funding considerations.

Share Your Feedback

Public input is a key part of this planning process. Residents will have multiple opportunities to learn more and provide feedback:

Online engagement:

February 25 – March 18, 2026
An online survey and additional project information will be available through the City’s Engage platform.

In‑person public drop‑in session:

Wednesday, March 4, 2026
4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Symons Valley United Church (38 Kincora Rise N.W.)

This will be a come‑and‑go event with display boards outlining the project and early concept options. There will be no formal presentation, allowing residents to drop in at their convenience, ask questions, and share feedback directly with the project team.

Stay Informed

More information and the online survey will be posted in the coming weeks. To stay up to date or participate online, visit: https://engage.calgary.ca/160AveNW
