July Newsletter, 2026
Happy Canada Day Ward 2! 🍁
As we kick off July, there’s plenty to celebrate across our community, including Stampede and a number of other great events happening throughout the month. This newsletter also includes local updates and ways to get involved in community life over the weeks ahead.
Coyotes and Wildlife in Calgary's North West
We have recently received an increase in reports and concerns from residents in Kincora regarding coyote activity in the area, including several encounters near pathways and ravines where coyotes are denned. While coyotes are a natural part of our urban environment, this recent activity has understandably caused concern for many families, walkers, and dog owners in the community.
This time of year, coyotes can become more defensive as they protect their dens and pups. In some cases, that can lead to more visible and assertive behaviour near pathways and other areas with regular human traffic. Our office has heard directly from residents who are worried about safety, especially in places where children and pets are often present.
At this stage, we want to be clear: the coyotes in question cannot be relocated, and City administration has confirmed that relocation is not being pursued. Instead, the focus remains on public education, monitoring, and helping residents reduce the chance of conflict by understanding how to respond safely.
To help with that, signs have now been installed in the immediate area where the coyotes are denning. We hope this gives residents an added reminder to use caution, stay alert, and avoid the area where possible.
Residents are encouraged to keep dogs leashed, avoid feeding wildlife, secure attractants such as garbage and pet food, and report aggressive behaviour or repeated sightings to 311.

Update: E-Bikes, E-Scooters, and Community Safety
As summer gets into full swing, we are continuing to hear concerns from residents across Ward 2 and beyond regarding unsafe use of electric bikes, scooters, and particularly e-dirt bikes in public spaces.
Following an earlier incident shared in Evanston Creekside this spring, similar concerns have now been raised in other communities, including a recent discussion from Arbour Lake. Reports of high-speed riding on pathways, sidewalks, and even in parks and playground areas highlight the need for ongoing awareness and enforcement.
Our office has been actively engaging with the City of Calgary’s Mobility department, the Alberta Motor Association (AMA), and the Calgary Police Service to better understand the regulatory landscape and enforcement options. While progress has been limited, we will continue advocating for clearer rules and improved safety measures.
In the meantime, it is important for residents to understand what is and is not permitted:
Legal e-bikes must follow specific rules regarding equipment and use, including a 20 km/h speed limit on pathways, mandatory helmet use, and no riding on sidewalks.
E-dirt bikes and mini-motorcycles cannot be registered or insured and are not permitted on roads, sidewalks, pathways, parks, or bike lanes.
Shared e-scooters are only allowed within designated pilot program areas and are not permitted for use in communities like Ward 2.
To support community awareness, our office created an information page in May outlining these rules and safety considerations. We also encourage residents to review guidance from the RCMP on illegal off-highway and unregistered vehicle use.
Shared public spaces depend on everyone using them responsibly. If you witness unsafe or illegal riding, please report it so concerns can be tracked and addressed appropriately.

Neighbour Day 2026
Neighbour day 2026 was a wonderful success, with 10 events hosted across Ward 2. From petting zoo goats and a best pie competition to lunch at Symons Valley United Church in Kincora, live music in Hawkwood, and much more, there was something for everyone to enjoy. It was a pleasure to meet so many people out in the community, and aside from one brief moment of rain, we were treated to wide open skies for a fantastic day together.
