Neighbour Day 2026: Start Planning Your Community Celebration
Neighbour Day is returning to Calgary on Saturday, June 20, 2026, and it is a great opportunity to bring people together, meet your neighbours, and celebrate the places we call home.
For the second year in a row, the City is offering the #YYCNeighbourDay microgrant, along with free permits, to help make local events easier to plan and more accessible.
Funding and free permits available
Community associations, Business Improvement Areas, and other non‑profit organizations can apply for the #YYCNeighbourDay microgrant, which provides up to $2,000 to support small‑scale, free‑to‑attend events that strengthen community connection.
Microgrant applications are open until May 6, 2026, or until available funds are fully allocated, so applying early is encouraged.
Once again, block party and greenspace permits are free for Neighbour Day events. Applications for permits are open until May 31, 2026.
Recognizing that June weather can be unpredictable, both microgrant funding and free permits will also apply to events held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, giving organizers some added flexibility.
What kind of events can you host?
Neighbour Day celebrations can be as simple or as creative as your community wants them to be. Popular ideas include block parties, barbecues, community clean‑ups, picnics, and small performances or activities in local parks or green spaces.
The goal is to create welcoming, local gatherings that help neighbours connect and spend time together.
Invite special guests
Calgarians are encouraged to make their Neighbour Day events extra special by inviting guests. You can request a visit from Mayor Farkas, your local Councillor, or even a fire truck, where available.
Requests for Mayor and Councillor visits are made through 311, and should be submitted early as availability is limited.
Share your event
Once your event is planned, be sure to add it to the Neighbour Day calendar. This helps others in your community discover celebrations happening nearby and makes it easier for neighbours to join in.
Get started
Neighbour Day is a simple but meaningful way to build stronger connections right where you live. Whether you are organizing a small gathering on your block or a larger community event, support is available to help bring your idea to life.
