Critical water main repair
Urgent repairs to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main are complete.
Urgent repairs to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main are complete and the pipe has been reconnected to the main network.
All water restrictions are lifted. Residents and businesses in Calgary, Airdrie, Chestermere, Strathmore and Tsuut’ina Nation can resume their regular indoor and outdoor water use.
Thank you Calgary!
Because of you, we got the job done. This is a major milestone, and we couldn’t have reached it without the co-operation of businesses, industries and residents across the city and surrounding municipalities.

Water quality
The drinking water has been tested and it is safe to drink. Some customers may notice that their water appears cloudy. This is a result of minor sediment and will resolve itself over time. If the issue persists, please contact 311.
You may also experience a strong chlorine smell for a short period. Chlorine levels were increased temporarily while the feeder main was reconnected to disinfect the line, but your tap water remains safe to drink.
Traffic
- 16 Avenue N.W. and 33 Avenue N.W. have re-opened to vehicle traffic.
- During the week of September 23, we will require access to valves on 16th and 33 Avenues N.W. to monitor the feeder main. Traffic flow will be impacted for 15 to 30 minutes at a time during this monitoring. All other monitoring is being done remotely.

Upcoming repairs
Two smaller sections of pipe along the Bearspaw South Feeder Main will be repaired in October and November along Memorial Drive in Parkdale.
These repairs are much smaller in scope and won’t require city-wide water restrictions because these sections can be isolated while keeping the feeder main running. We are finalizing our plans and will share more details of this work in the coming weeks.
Work is also underway to determine our medium and long-term planning for the pipe. Once we’ve received and reviewed recommendations from our consultants and our own lessons learned we will share next steps.
