YYC Airport Zero Carbon Energy District Planning & Design Process – hosted by Calgary Airport Authority

Friday, October 27th, 2023 (Plus an introductory webinar session Oct. 12th and a second session late-Nov.)

Location: Air Terminal Building (Location TBD), Airport Rd NE, Calgary

The Calgary Airport Authority (YYC) is continuing our efforts to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emission by 2050 through our upcoming decarbonization strategy, called our “Net Zero Emission Roadmap”. In addition to supporting the reduction of YYC’s direct (Scope I) and electricity (Scope 2) emissions, our Net Zero Roadmap is an opportunity to support organizations on and around our airports with achieving their own decarbonization goals.

To achieve our net zero target, we are investigating the potential for YYC Calgary International Airport to be a centralised location for airport users, partners and the Calgary community to test, scale and implement zero carbon energy solutions. Tentatively termed the “YYC Airport Zero Carbon Energy District”, the vision is to use the airport and surrounding areas to collaboratively scale-up low-carbon technologies and business models for the full range of energy types used on and around Calgary International Airport.

We are inviting you to participate in a planning and design process to identify collaborative decarbonization projects in support of the YYC Airport Zero Carbon Energy District. If you are able to join us, the process will involve an optional introductory webinar, followed by two working sessions throughout the Fall 2023, as follows:

  • Introductory Webinar and Q/A session: October 12, 2023 from 12:00-12:45 MT online (link will be circulated following registration).
  • Session 1 - Collaborative Opportunities and Challenges: Friday October 27 from 08:00 to 14:30 MT at Calgary International Airport (parking will be validated).
  • Session 2 - Defining Anchor Projects: TBD, Late November from 08:00 to 14:30 MT at Calgary International Airport (parking will be validated).

Details about the initiative and process are provided in the PDF available here. Please use this link to RSVP by end of day on Wednesday Friday Oct 20th, 2023.
