Whooo wants to learn about owls? The Owls and Pellets program uses videos, pictures, and biofacts to help your group learn about owls in Alberta. How do owls hunt their prey? Are owls only active at night? Can they turn their head all the way around? Learn about this and more! This program is a HOOT! Students finish with an owl pellet dissection.

Have you ever heard a high-pitched whistle while in the mountains? That’s the hoary marmot, a unique creature known for its vocal warnings, playful wrestling, and lengthy hibernation. These charming dandelion eaters are a delightful sight on high elevation hikes. But how is climate change affecting their distribution? How do they fit into our ecosystem? What dangers do they face?

Become a Home H2O Hero
Become a Home H2O Hero is a fun, hands‑on workshop that helps kids learn how everyday choices at home can make a big difference in water conservation and responsible water use. Through a series of interactive stations set in familiar spaces like the bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, and yard, participants solve scenarios, complete quick challenges, and earn “litres saved” tokens for making water‑wise decisions. The workshop uses positive messaging, teamwork, and tactile activities to build practical understanding and confidence, empowering kids to become water‑saving champions at home and in their communities.

Students explore how the atmosphere, oceans, land, vegetation, and ice interact to shape climate. Through hands-on investigations —including ocean acidification, carbon sequestration, and ice cores —they learn how changes drive climate impacts on natural systems, and they leave with hopeful, practical mitigation ideas and actions for a sustainable future.

Paint a Watershed! (PAW!)
Curriculum‑focused, hands‑on session where students build watershed simulations using art materials. They discover how water moves across landscapes to low points, carrying sediment, nutrients, and contaminants — aligned to Grades 3–5 Earth Systems. All art and cleaning supplies provided. Wear old clothes (washable paint possible).

Relating to Nature: Just Breathe, Okâwîmâskiy (Just Breathe, Mother Earth)
Experience Just Breathe, Okâwîmâwaskiy — a powerful blend of migration storytelling and Indigenous hoop dance. In 45 minutes (including a 10‑minute performance), students explore reconciliation, climate change, and respectful relations with nature, learn the meaning of hoop dance, and join a guided dialogue that validates and supports their feelings.

Solar 101: An Introduction to Solar Energy
This presentation will provide an overview of the solar industry in Alberta, including trends we are seeing--from a huge increase in the number of solar arrays on homes and businesses to oil refineries that use solar to help power their refinery and agrivoltaics (when agriculture and solar are combined). It will also describe how solar energy works and address some common myths about solar.

Watch Just Breathe, Okâwîmâskiy, a 22‑minute film co‑created by Cree artist Sandra Lamouche and UCalgary’s Melanie Kloetzel. Through movement and story, students explore climate anxiety, ecological grief, and land‑based Indigenous wisdom, questioning Eurocentric climate responses. Spark grounded dialogue and cross‑curricular learning (Science, Social Studies, ELA, Arts, Wellness) that builds empathy and action.

Bats are fascinating creatures that have long been associated with disease and scary mythical creatures and we want to show students that bats are not scary, just hairy. Join us for a presentation to learn some interesting facts and bust some myths about Bats found in Alberta. This session focus on Bat's adaptations, how they live, why they are important for our ecosystems, and what we can do to support healthy bat communities.
