From June 15 to 17, 2025, Canada hosted the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta.

As a neighbouring city, Calgary was proud to welcome delegates, media, and guests from more than 20 countries. Calgary supported the summit through logistics, City services and public safety coordination.

Updates

All road closures related to the Summit are no longer in place and traffic is now flowing. This includes 9th Avenue SW, the Airport Tunnel and eastbound Airport Trail.

Some closures or access restrictions may still be in place in the Kananaskis area. Visitors are encouraged to check the Alberta Parks website for the most up-to-date information before travelling.

What is the G7 Summit?

The G7

The Group of Seven (G7) is a gathering of leaders from the world’s seven biggest advanced economies: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The European Union also takes part. Each year, these leaders meet to talk about the global issues that impact all G7 countries like the economy, climate change and peace and security.

Canada and Calgary at the G7 Summit

The event is led by Global Affairs Canada and the Prime Minister’s Office, in coordination with national security agencies and all levels of government. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is the lead agency responsible for security, working in collaboration with federal, provincial and municipal partners through the Integrated Safety and Security Group (ISSG). Together, they are ensuring the safety of residents, visitors and dignitaries during the event.

Staying safe

A multi-agency Integrated Safety and Security Group was in place to ensure the safety of Calgarians and visitors during the summit. The Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) was actively supporting preparedness and coordination efforts through the Emergency Operations Centre.

    Call 911 for any emergency requiring police, fire, or ambulance or if someone’s safety is at risk.

  • Police non-emergency

    Call 403-266-1234 for non-urgent police matters such as theft or property damage.

  • City services

    Contact 311 Calgary for City information and services including non-emergency and non-law enforcement related issues (e.g. bylaw issues).

  • Demonstrations

    The Calgary Police Service supports peaceful protest while ensuring safety of residents, visitors and businesses.

  • Security

  • Emergency Management

    Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) coordinates city-wide emergency preparedness and response through the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).
