Local Area Planning Plans in progress

Communities currently involved in a local area planning process.

Plans in progress

Since 2021, eight local area plans have been approved, involving 75 communities and 8 eight industrial areas. The local area planning projects for the South Bow Communities and Carburn Communities kicks off in March 2026, and South McKnight Communities launches in May 2026. The three local area planning projects include across 30 communities and industrial areas.

Over the long term, the goal is to create local area plans for all established communities. Areas to focus on next are based on many factors including level of change and redevelopment being experienced, resources and funding, and more.

Timing and sequencing

Plans are sequenced based on recommendations from the Established Areas Growth and Change Strategy, development permit application numbers, and with considerations for equity in planning and major infrastructure projects, like new LRT lines. Local plans will take anywhere between 2 two – to 3 three years to complete.
