Connecting people to places MAX Green improvements

Making transit along Centre Street more predictable and comfortable, so everyday trips feel easier, safer and less stressful.

Project overview

We are continuing to make improvements along Centre Street, Calgary’s busiest transit corridor. More than 30,000 people use it every day. From downtown to 160 avenue north, these upgrades help you spend less time in traffic, count on your trip and move through the city more easily.

How this improves your trip

  • Faster travel times

Bus-only lanes that and traffic signal priority help buses move past congestion so your trip is quicker and more consistent.

  • More reliable service

Fewer delays and more predictable travel times make it easier to plan your day.

  • Better connections

Improved links to CTrain and bus routes make it easier to get where you need to go with fewer transfers.

  • More comfortable and accessible stops

Upgraded stations include larger platforms, better lighting and shelters to improve comfort and safety year-round for people of all ages and abilities.

  • Safer access to transit

Improved crossings and walking and wheeling connections make it easier and safer to reach your stop.

MAX Green is part of Calgary’s long-term transit plan, helping connect people to jobs, school and services, now and in the future.

Latest updates

June 2026

Beginning in summer 2026, the next milestone of improvements will include:

  • New bus only lane from 28 Ave. N.E. to 40 Ave. N.E.
Giving buses their own space through a busy stretch, helping reduce delays and improve travel times.
  • A continuous bus only lane through the 42–43 avenue area
Creating a longer, uninterrupted section where buses can move more reliably.
  • Changes at the McKnight Boulevard intersection
Reconfiguring the intersection and extending northbound bus-only lane to Thorncliffe Community Association, so buses can move through more efficiently.
  • Improvements at the 78 Ave. N.E. bus loop
A better bus loop layout and a new break space for transit operators, supporting smoother service throughout the day.
  • Bus lane upgrades near Beddington Boulevard
Extending southbound bus lanes to existing bus gates and adjusting traffic lanes to help buses move through this area more easily.
  • Extended bus only lanes (Country Hills Blvd to Panatella Blvd)
This long stretch of bus only lane helps keep transit moving in a growing area. A new left-turn lane into the North Pointe Park and Ride will make it easier and safer for people arriving by car.

Construction

Construction will begin later this summer. Please check back for a detailed schedule in the coming months.

Minimizing construction impacts

Construction is part of building a better city, but we know reliable access and safe travel matter to our community. We are working hard to reduce impacts to people and businesses wherever possible.

  • Off-peak work schedule

Planning work outside busy times to limit delays and disruption.

  • Maintained businesses access

Keeping entrances accessible so customers can continue to visit.

  • Temporary transit stops

Adjusting stop locations so your trip stays on track.

  • Clear detour signs

Guiding you around construction with clear, visible routes.

Outreach and engagement

Public input helped shape MAX Green, including station locations, access improvements and construction planning.

  • Public information sessions were held in 2023 and 2024.
  • Earlier engagement (2020-2021) informed long-term plans.
