New subdivision construction

Roads ensures that the roads, curbs, medians, sidewalks, lanes, and fences/walls/etc. adjacent to public property in new subdivisions are constructed to current standards and specifications.

Developers, with the assistance of engineering consultants, build new subdivisions according to established City guidelines and approved drawings. The City works closely with the development industry, represented by BILD – Calgary Region, to make sure new subdivisions are designed and constructed in the most cost-effective manner possible.

Developer responsibility and Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC)

After new subdivision construction is completed, the developer must maintain the subdivision for another two years. At the end of this maintenance period, The City inspects the entire subdivision, and all defects and damage are noted. When the repairs are completed to the satisfaction of The City, a Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) is issued and The City takes over responsibility for the maintenance of the community.

If you have a question or concern regarding your new subdivision, please first contact your subdivisions’ developer to allow them the opportunity to remedy the situation. If your developer has been unable to resolve your concern, please use the eService below to submit your inquiry to The City for review.
