Parks & Open Spaces
Parks plans, builds, maintains and stewards an accessible parks system. We conserve and promote biodiverse ecosystems and cultural landscapes to give Calgarians nature in our city with safe, inclusive, social and active opportunities.
We have regional and neighbourhood parks and river valleys with playgrounds, picnic sites, spray parks, outdoor skating, toboggan hills, off-leash areas and year-round activities.
We support park volunteers and deliver environmental education programs. Parks also has neighbourhood sport opportunities that include soccer, baseball, cricket, tennis, basketball and skateboarding.

What we heard
Parks has had stable satisfaction rates for a decade, with almost all positive approval. You want us to protect the natural environment, green spaces and urban wildlife. You’ve also stressed the importance of parks to benefit physical and mental health and overall wellbeing of Calgarians.
Council direction
Council has directed us to make parks and green spaces a priority, and proactively seek to increase green space in neighbourhoods. We support the creation of public meeting spaces, healthy lifestyles and active living through a range of accessible and affordable recreation opportunities in every community.
We will contribute to Calgary's climate change resilience strategies, watershed protection and water conservation initiatives, protection and enhancement of First Nations, and heritage sites. Finally, we will ensure new and established communities are complete- through parks planning, operations and ongoing capital investment.
