Inspection station applications
A garage, licenced by the Province of Alberta (and in good standing) to operate in Calgary, may apply to conduct inspections on vehicles affiliated with Calgary’s taxi, limousine, or ride-share industry.
The garage and mechanic must hold a valid certificate issued by Vehicle For Hire office to conduct livery inspections. There is no limit to the number of mechanic certificates affiliated with the inspection station. Download the Vehicle for Hire Bylaw 20M2021 for information and fees.
All vehicles entering the vehicle for hire industry require an inspection and a new inspection is required yearly. The inspection requirements are listed within the Vehicle for Hire Bylaw 20M2021 - Enhanced Livery Vehicle Inspection Standards (ELVIS).
Applications
An application for an Inspection Station Certificate and a Mechanic Certificate are required, and upon approval the licence is issued that is required to be renewed each year.

Renewals
An Inspection Station and Mechanic Certificate can be renewed from the first of the month prior to the expiry month up to the date of expiry. For example, if the expiry date is May 31, the first day of renewal is April 1 and the last day is May 31.
If an Inspection Station and Mechanic Certificate are not renewed by the expiry date, the Certificate file is closed, and the Inspection Station and Mechanic(s) must cease all livery inspections in the city of Calgary.
