Sandy Beach Park improvements
During engagement we heard support for additional parking, shrubbery, and green spaces. Respondents also voiced support for winter activity options like a skating ribbon or skating rink. A paved road into the park and improved accessibility also received strong support. Feedback was more mixed when it came to the proposed park entry way design.

About the project
As part of the Established Areas Growth and Change Strategy, the community of Altadore and Sandy Beach were recognized as growth areas. In recent years, the community has seen increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Potential improvements could include upgrades to recreation facilities, the gravel access road, and parking in Sandy Beach Park.
This work will improve the public realm and support safe, easy, and accessible travel for residents and visitors. The project promotes a vibrant outdoor green space with the existing dog park, public river access, and enhanced park and recreation upgrades.
In November 2021, the project team met with stakeholders, including homeowners and leaseholders in Sandy Beach Park. Online public engagement was held from November 29 - December 15, 2021 including two virtual open houses. The project team shared the overall designs and welcomed feedback from the public. The engagement is now complete, and the What We Heard Report contains a full recap.
Public feedback was shared with the project team and was used to inform the final design concept for Sandy Beach Park. Construction is anticipated to start in 2022 and more information will be shared prior to with residents and businesses. Working within the budget, the project team plans to proceed with paving 50 Avenue S.W., installing additional parking, and landscaping to manage storm water in the area. Current designs also consider and accommodate for future funding and summer/winter activities.
