Partnership with The City of Calgary

The City partners with community associations to make life better for all Calgarians. Our close partnership allows us to work together to create and sustain vibrant, healthy, and complete communities across the city.

Community Associations provide valued programs and services in neighbourhoods.  They also advocate and represent their residents, their members, and their neighbourhood, continually identifying and responding to community needs supported by partnership with The City.

The City’s Neighbourhood Partnership Coordinators (NPCs) are the main contact with community associations, stewarding and championing these important relationships. They are connectors, enablers, and collaborators aimed at providing resources to increase the capacity of community associations to deliver on their mandates.

NPCs work in The City’s Partnerships business unit, part of the Community Services division, and whose current work is further reflected in the Neighbourhood Support plan and budget 2023-2026

In addition to the support offered by NPCs, the Lease/License of Occupation to Community Associations and Social Recreation Organizations Policy provides a framework for community associations to occupy City-owned land. The City contributes funding to maintain community buildings on these lands and develop amenities for the benefit of residents.

Through several municipal grants, funding is also provided to community associations for the activation of local spaces and a variety of projects aimed at developing social connections among neighbours.

Lastly, the partnership between The City and community associations align to deliver on Council’s strategic priorities and Council approved policies to optimize the impact of our collective work.

Council approved policies relevant to this partnership work include the following:
