Prevention and Public Awareness
We offer a variety of community education, prevention and awareness initiatives which focus on safety, responsible pet ownership and building strong and inclusive communities. For information on our current programs, please visit the links below.
Each year Calgary Community Standards, in partnership with Waste & Recycling, teams up with local community associations to help residents get rid of unwanted household items and property waste. These organized Community Cleanup events save residents a trip to the landfill for items that do not fit in their waste and recycling carts or do not have cart service. This service is free of charge to all Calgarians.
Through the Off-Leash Ambassador, volunteers help to promote the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw and assist owners with positive pet interactions and safety through educational information, demonstrations and discussions. The ambassadors are positive role models in the off-leash areas adhering to Calgary's bylaws and providing an excellent avenue for citizens to express concerns to pass along to City bylaw staff.
If you are the victim of graffiti and are not able to remove the graffiti yourself, you can request assistance from the Corporate Coordinated Graffiti Abatement Program (CCGAP). This graffiti removal service is free of charge to the property owner.
Safety Expo is an opportunity for school children to learn more about safety and injury prevention issues. By participating in this event, they will internalize the skills and knowledge needed to ensure safe environments for themselves and others, thus improving quality of life for today and the future.
The Partner Agency Liaison (PAL) team currently consists of two dedicated Community Peace Officers who focus on addressing the root causes of situations that lead to homelessness and rough sleeping in Calgary. Through this dedication, the PAL team has created a unique working model to address illegal encampments.
