Haddon Road Maintenance Depot Improvements

Providing Calgarians with safe, reliable travel routes – now and into the future. Haddon Road Maintenance Depot improvements

Project overview

The Haddon Road Maintenance Depot helps keep roads in south Calgary safe, clear, and connected year‑round. For more than 60 years, City crews working out of the depot have supported surrounding communities by providing essential road maintenance services such as snow clearing, street sweeping, and road repairs.

We are making key upgrades to the depot so it can continue delivering safe, reliable road maintenance for years to come, while minimizing impacts on neighbours and improving how the site fits within the surrounding community.

Project details

The Haddon Road Maintenance Depot Improvements project will update the site to meet modern safety, environmental, and operational standards. These improvements will help extend the life of the depot for 30+ years.

The project will:

  • Replace aging buildings and infrastructure to better support City crews, equipment, and meet modern safety and environmental standards.
  • Improve the site layout to make day-to-day work safer and more efficient.
  • Reduce impacts on nearby homes and help the site fit better into the surrounding community.

As the project is in early design, some updates are being confirmed, while other details are still being developed. More information will be shared on this page as plans progress.

Budget and funding

The project currently has $6.5 million in approved funding for detailed design and enabling works. Additional funding for construction will be shared once plans are finalized and the required funding is secured.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Haddon Road Maintenance Depot?

The Haddon Road Maintenance Depot is a City of Calgary Roads maintenance facility located at 340 Haddon Road S.W. in Haysboro. Officially known as City of Calgary Roads District 6, the site serves as a home base for City crews, vehicles, and equipment that support essential year-round road maintenance operations in communities of southeast and southwest Calgary.

City crews working out of the Haddon Road Maintenance Depot support several key programs, including:

The depot has supported these services for more than 60 years and continues to play an important role in maintaining Calgary’s transportation network.

Why are improvements to the depot needed?

The existing facility was built in the 1960’s and is no longer equipped to support current operational needs or safety and environmental standards. Upgrades will modernize the site so it can safely and reliably support the essential road maintenance services Calgarians rely on, now and into the future.

Will the depot become larger or busier than it is now?

No. The project is focused on updating the site so we can continue to support the same essential services more efficiently and with reduced neighbourhood impacts, not expansion.

How will improvements to the depot benefit the community of Haysboro?

The depot is part of the Haysboro community, and the project is being planned with nearby residents in mind. Improvements are intended to make the site a better neighbour by improving its appearance, reducing impacts on surrounding homes, and delivering meaningful benefits to the community.

  • Storing materials such as road salt and treated gravel (pickle mix) indoors will help limit dust from spreading beyond the site.
  • Storing trucks and equipment indoors will reduce noise caused by early morning idling and running engines.
  • Updated buildings, fencing and landscaping will give the site a cleaner, more modern look that better fits the surrounding neighbourhood.

Additional community benefits and design features will be shared as details are confirmed.

Why is it important for the depot to stay at its current location?

The Haddon Road Maintenance Depot supports the road maintenance needs of approximately 150,000 Calgarians in 29 communities. Because it is centrally located within this service area and close to major roads like Southland Drive, Anderson Road, and Macleod Trail, crews can quickly and efficiently reach nearby communities. This is especially important during the winter months, when fast response is critical to keeping roads clear and safe.

There are no other suitable locations that offer the required size, central location, and access to major roadways needed to deliver these services effectively in this area. Modernizing the existing site will ensure City crews can continue providing the essential road maintenance services that Calgarians in surrounding communities rely on.

When will construction start and how long will it take?

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2028, with work expected to take approximately three years to complete. Timelines may change as planning and design continue. Updated information will be shared on this webpage as details are confirmed.

How will residents be impacted by construction?

Some construction impacts are expected, but specific details are not yet known as the project is still in the design stage. We are committed to keeping impacts as limited as possible and keeping the community informed throughout the project. As plans are confirmed and work moves forward, regular updates will be shared so residents know what to expect and when.

Will road maintenance work be affected during construction?

The Haddon Road Maintenance Depot will remain open and fully operational throughout construction to ensure snow clearing, street sweeping, and road maintenance in south Calgary continues without interruption.

How can I share feedback or ask questions?

We are exploring opportunities to gather community feedback as the project moves forward and will share more details as plans are confirmed.

In the meantime, questions or comments can be shared with the project team at HaddonRoadDepot@calgary.ca, or through 311.

How can residents stay informed?

Project updates will be shared on this webpage and through the project newsletter. Sign up to stay informed as the project progresses.
