Peigan Trail S.E. Twinning Project

Peigan Trail S.E. Twinning Project

We’re twinning Peigan Trail to increase traffic capacity and support growth in southeast Calgary.

Project overview

This project will twin Peigan Trail from two lanes to four to accommodate the rising volume of trucks and motorists in the industrial area. We will also create a new connection to 68 Street S.E. to improve connectivity and enable further industrial growth.

The project also improves pathways, public spaces, and connections along Peigan Trail.

Benefits

  • Increased roadway capacity

New lanes and larger intersections will significantly improve the local network and support future growth.

  • New pathways and connections

Pathways along Peigan Trail provide access between businesses and residents as well as connectivity to the Rotary/Mattamy Greenway for people walking, wheeling and cycling.

  • Enables future business and industry development

By increasing roadway capacity and creating a new connection at 68 Street, the project supports future commercial and industrial growth, including Constellation.

  • Long-term resilience

New stormwater systems and ponds protects the roadway and surrounding areas from flooding and water damange.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will construction start?

The construction timeline will be shared once funding is approved by City Council. The project is ready to begin when funding is in place.

When will funding be decided?

City Council makes funding decisions during budget deliberations in November. This project may be included in the 2027–2030 budget cycle.

Will noise barriers be installed along residential areas?

We’ve completed a noise study to understand how the expanded roadway could affect nearby communities. We’ll contact residents in areas where projected noise levels exceed the City’s minimum thresholds. If those residents support the installation of noise barriers, they will be included in the project to help reduce traffic noise.
