Avoid scams
While The City does contact property owners by phone regarding taxes, we will never:
- Ask for payment by pre-paid credit card, gift cards or bitcoin
- Threaten to send the police, lay criminal charges or threaten you with arrest/jail for non-payment
- Request personal information such as Social Insurance Number (SIN), health care number, passport number or birthdate
- Use aggressive language or tone
If you get a suspicious call claiming you owe money to The City, call 311 to verify its authenticity.
