Landfill and Eco Centre residential materials and rates

Fees are based on the weight and type of items you have in your load. If you bring a mix of charge and free items, you will pay for the entire load. See rate types below for each category.

    Composition of waste loads is highly variable. The City landfill staff has final say about acceptability of any material, customer type (residential or commercial) and the charges applied to each load.

    Free items only

    If you bring only free items in your load, there will be no fees applied.

    Loads under 250 kg (550 lbs)

    This applies to charge items and/or mixed loads of free and charge items.

    Pay a flat rate of $25 per load.

    Loads 250kg (550lbs) and over

    This applies to charge items and/or mixed loads of free and charge items.

    You will be charged for the total weight of your load. The highest applicable rate will apply.

    Basic Sanitary Waste

    • Includes garbage, sod, street sweepings and asphalt shingles. For more examples, see our frequently asked questions.
    • Flat rate of $25/load for loads weighing less than 250 kilograms.

    Refrigerant Removal from Equipment

    • This surcharge applies regardless if the refrigerant has been removed or not.
    • Charges for the weight of the item will also apply.
    • This applies to equipment that uses refrigerant (freon) such as refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers, water coolers etc.
    $17/item + weight charges

    Hard-to-Handle Surcharge

    • Applied to handle low weight, large volume loads or loads requiring special handling.
    • This is in addition to either the Basic Sanitary (garbage) or Industrial Waste rates.

    Recyclable material

    Rate type 2026

    Drywall

    • Gypsum wallboard that has less than 2% by weight of garbage, wood, metal and other contaminants. Wet, painted or vinyl covered wallboards are acceptable, as well as exterior grade wallboards.

    $90/tonne

    Recyclable Wood

    • Untreated dimensional lumber, used pallets and other wood items that are made of raw and un-processed wood.

    Scrap Metal

    • Construction, demolition and renovation related scrap metals up to 1.2 m (4 ft).

    Yard waste

    • Leaves and cones, plants and flowers, branches, twigs, hedge prunings, grass clippings, weeds, hay
    • Christmas trees
    • Cold barbeque or fireplace ashes
    • All materials must be loose or in paper bags. No plastic bags.

    Please note: Composting for sod is not available at City landfills. This material will be charged the basic sanitary rate.

    Certain materials can be dropped off free of charge for residential customers during seasonal periods. Seasonal dates apply otherwise these materials will be charged the yard waste rate outside of the specified periods.

    No GST is charged on landfill rates.
