The Journey Forward
The City of Calgary Youth Employment Centre has committed to working alongside United Way Calgary and Area in offering The Journey Forward program (formerly called, Career Talks) in conjunction with All in For Youth high schools in Calgary.
The Journey Forward promotes high school completion by having volunteers share their personal stories and journeys into their respective professions through small, informal discussion groups (1-10 students). Each session focuses on the importance of setting obtainable goals, navigating the world of work, overcoming challenges and self-discovery. Sessions are a way to motivate students to explore an array of career opportunities. They are not professional presentations, recruiting events, hiring fairs or a way of convincing students towards a certain career path.
All In for Youth is a city-wide initiative focused on school completion. The initiative aims to reduce the high school dropout rate in Calgary. In 2012, 25% of Calgary youth were not completing high school on time. Today, that number has been reduced to 20% – thanks in part to All In for Youth.
For more information and/or to find out how you or your organization can become involved, click here, or contact our All In for Youth Liaisons to find out more.
