The program is on track to overperform by allocating the $15 million approximately two years quicker than the targeted four years.

The Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) is a financing tool, which is offered by The City that supports Calgary homeowners with energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements. The program was launched in January 2023.

As of July 2023, over $1 million of financing has been accessed by Calgarians for home improvements. At this rate, it is anticipated that the program will be fully allocated two years earlier than expected, with all available financing on track to be ‘committed’ by the end of 2024 instead of 2026.

With the success of the program so far, The City is exploring opportunities to increase the amount of financing available for residential properties and expand the program to non-residential properties.

Calgarians are ready

Between January 2023 and July 2023, almost 400 homeowners have submitted pre-applications. As of July 2023, over $1 million, of the $15 million available, has been committed to homeowners in the CEIP program. Homeowners are aiming for deep retrofits through CEIP. Over 50 per cent of projects include two or more different improvements, including solar PV, high-efficiency windows, and HVAC upgrades.  

When the scheduled intakes open over the next year, Calgarians can again apply for CEIP online. Once pre-qualified, homeowners must complete an EnerGuide Home Evaluation to learn about their home’s current energy usage and opportunities for increasing energy performance.
