Year One: 365 Days of Progress
It’s been one year since we broke ground in June 2025. Since then, the Green Line LRT - SE Project has been full speed ahead. From major contracts to active construction and new trains on the way, here’s what we’ve accomplished and what it means for Calgary.
5 local companies shortlisted for main construction
In October 2025, we shortlisted five companies to bid on the major construction projects required to build the Green Line. This opens the door to subcontracting opportunities and thousands of jobs for Calgarians, helping keep investment and expertise right here in Calgary.
$200M+ awarded in construction contracts
Since groundbreaking, we’ve awarded eight contracts—investing over $200 million into the local economy. This is just the beginning as more construction opportunities will be released later in 2026 continuing to support local industry.
7 active construction projects
Construction is underway across the southeast, with more projects starting this year. Crews are making progress on:
- Building LRT bridges over 78 Avenue S.E. and Blackfoot Trail.
- Preparing the 114 Avenue and Barlow Trail S.E. intersection for an elevated track (piling, utilities and road work).
- Constructing the elevated track over 114 Ave and Barlow Trail S.E.
- Realigning Ogden Road to make way for the Green Line.
- Preparing the site for the maintenance and storage facility (removing topsoil, installing underground utilities and building foundations).
- Fabricating and installing structural steel for the maintenance and storage facility.
Train manufacturing underway
Calgary's first low-floor trains are on the assembly line at CAF’s production facility in Spain. Once built, they will undergo rigorous testing abroad and at home ensuring they meet our standards for safe, reliable and accessible transit.
9 station designs nearing completion
Design work for nine stations is nearly complete, which means construction can begin soon. Contracts for station construction are expected to be awarded later in 2026, with shovels in the ground in 2027.
