Blue line Northeast LRT extension
Through extending the existing Blue Line Northeast Light Rail Transit (LRT) further to the northeast to 88 Ave NE, this project provides LRT service to high-density northeast Calgary communities, as well as industrial areas, while supporting the Airport Transit Connection.

- Improves travel time and reliability by converting from bus to LRT

Status
Detailed design and construction can begin immediately to be ready for the Airport Transit Connector between the Blue Line and Airport Terminal.
Airport transit connector
Providing a connection to the Calgary International Airport from the Blue Line in the Northeast, this project brings travelers and employees to and from Calgary International Airport, with key stops in the surrounding industrial areas.
This project supports Calgary’s economy by connecting rapid transit lines and enhancing access between the downtown, airport and the region.

- Estimated 13,000 passengers per weekday
Reduced Emissions:
- Saves up to 5,300 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year
Improved Mobility:
- Estimated 12,500 Calgarians living within 800m of the station in 2048

Job Creation:
- Estimated 2,929 regional jobs during construction period
Service Enhancements:
- Improves customer travel time and reliability converting from bus to LRT
- Directly connects Calgarians in NE Calgary to the large employment base at the airport

Foothills Multisport fieldhouse

Event Hosting:
- Enables Calgary to host national and international competitions, stimulating the economy through increased sport tourism
- Raises the profile of Calgary, Alberta, and Canada as a world-class sport tourism and training destination
Community Recreation:
- Improves local access to recreation facilities
- Builds community and catalyzes future redevelopment of the Foothills Athletic Park and McMahon Stadium lands
The Future of Sport:
- Addresses a gap in indoor practice and play space in Calgary
- Supports a wide range of sports played at various levels (emerging, recreational, grassroots, competitive)

Project features
The Foothills Multisport Fieldhouse will accommodate field sports, court sports and athletics and will serve as a community hub with onsite community services and gathering space.
Amenities include:
- FIFA-sized rectangular field
- Track and field amenities built to World Athletics standards
- Court space
- Fitness centre
- Multipurpose rooms
Capital Cost
Estimated $380 million (Class 5 cost estimate)
Status
The City of Calgary has earmarked $109 million towards the project. This represents a significant opportunity for other levels of government, the private sector and public institutions to leverage available funding towards shared outcomes.
The timeline to complete the project is estimated to be five years from the time funding becomes available.
MAX 301 - North central BRT
Funding for the MAX 301 North Central Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) - Convertible Corridor will complete long-term improvements along the entire Centre St. North transit corridor.
Improvements will enable the corridor to be a flexible and convertible mobility corridor in advance of the future Green Line North LRT extension.

Service Enhancements:
- Contributes to mode progression and increased transit services along the Green Line North corridor
- Provides improved mobility for communities in North Central Calgary to MAX Orange BRT providing services to northeast and northwest Calgary (including SAIT, ACAD and the University of Calgary)

- 13.5 km of improvements on Centre Street N
- Construction of a transitway north of Beddington Trail N
- Queue jumps and traffic signal priority south of Beddington Trail N
- Enhanced heated shelters along the alignment

Status
Currently funding for short- and medium-term improvements of $50 Million has been secured. Preliminary engineering and detailed design are required to complete MAX 301 North Central BRT improvements along the entire Centre St. transit corridor.

A multisport fieldhouse at Foothills Athletic Park addresses the need for indoor practice and play space and offers opportunities to attract major sporting competitions.
Three of these projects, the Event Centre in Victoria Park, BMO Convention Centre Expansion and Arts Commons Transformation are key foundations of a future Cultural and Entertainment District. These investments support The City’s Downtown Strategy to further Calgary’s economic growth and resilience, through being catalysts for revitalization and private investment.
