Redevelopment of Glenmore Athletic Park
The City is redeveloping the Glenmore Athletic Park, that includes building new and upgraded track and field facilities along 50 Avenue SW to replace the aging infrastructure. This will modernize the track and field amenities to keep pace with athletic standards, meet community needs, enhance site accessibility and connectivity, reduce annual maintenance needs, and improved operational efficiencies. This will provide Calgarians a hub for sport activities and place to host major sporting events, and encouraging healthy and active lifestyles.
MNP Community & Sport Centre Leisure Expansion Aquatics Project (LEAP)
The Lindsay Park Sport Society, with support from the City of Calgary, is expanding the MNP Community & Sport Centre. The Leisure Aquatic Expansion Project (LEAP) will see the expansion, modernization, and upgrade to the existing facility providing a wider range of recreation programs and services to meet Calgarian’s needs. This project will add new amenities, community gathering spaces, and upgrade existing facilities. These upgrades will allow the MNP Community & Sport Centre to continue to host major sporting events, and offer Calgarians year-round opportunities to play, practice, and compete in a variety of sports.
Main Streets – 33/34 Avenues S.W
As part of the City’s Main Streets Program, the Marda Loop Main Streets project along 33 and 34 Avenues SW aims to revitalize the Main Street through public realm improvements, including bettering pedestrian and vehicular safety, improving access to a range of mobility options, and enhancing landscaping, while spurring economic activity. Once complete these upgrades will offer Calgarians improved pedestrian safety, accessibility, and new and improved community gathering spaces, as well as promote continued economic growth for businesses on and near the Main Street.
Other Main Streets in the West Elbow Communities could be prioritized for improvements through the Main Streets Program in the future. Please see the general Main Streets website linked below to stay up to date with the current and future Main Street improvement projects.
West Elbow Communities Heritage Guidelines Implementation Guide
The Heritage Guidelines will help ensure new development respects the historic character of existing homes and positively contributes to the ongoing historic nature of these areas. Any plans to build or renovate homes within the Heritage Guideline Area boundaries must meet the Heritage Guidelines. Development plans will be approved at the discretion of The City to ensure the Heritage Guidelines have been adhered to.
This Implementation Guide demonstrates the various ways that new development can respond to existing heritage assets in Heritage Guideline Areas.
