Good to know before you get started

FOIP Requests

A Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) access request provides access to information held by The City which is not available by other means, and allows individuals to request correction of their own personal information that The City holds.

General FOIP access request vs. personal FOIP access request

  • General FOIP access request - recorded information that is not about an identifiable person.
  • Personal FOIP access request - recorded information about yourself or a person you are authorized to act for.

How much does this cost?

  • General FOIP access request - Initial fee of $25.00. Additional fees may be charged for processing costs.
  • Personal FOIP access request - No initial fee. Subject to fees for producing a copy of the record if estimated to exceed $10.

Please be specific and give as much detail as possible in your request like:

  • the records you want to access,
  • the business unit and/or department of The City you believe has the records and,
  • the time period for the records.

** Don't forget to sign, date and send your request to the FOIP Coordinator with any applicable fees. **
