Do I need a sport tournament, community event or day camp rental application?

Playfield tournament, day camps and weekday bookings prior to 6 p.m. (non-public hours)

An application must be submitted if your event includes/requires approval for the any of the following on a D or E-class playfield:

  • Sport tournaments
  • Day camps
  • Weekday booking requests prior to 6 p.m. (non-public hours)
  • BBQ’s (propane only)
  • Sport event or program that includes food sales/service (permit required and must be provided to The City of Calgary), erecting structures (tent, bouncy castle, pergola etc.), generators, amplification (PA System, music, microphone, speakers etc.) or portable toilets
  • Sport community event with no alcohol

If you are planning to have any of the following as part of your event, visit Planning a festival or event with The City to learn more about your next steps. Please do not submit a tournament application.

  • Alcohol (alcohol is not permitted at any D or E class playfield)
  • Fireworks
  • Use of roadways
  • Large sporting events
  • Tents exceeding a combined area of 600 square feet or more
  • Additional support due to protests

If you are organizing a tournament with alcohol or tents exceeding a combined area of 600 square feet, you must contact Event Services for information and booking at least 90 days prior to your planned event. 

*Special Events (non-sporting events): Any activity that is not a regular sporting activity and is not serving alcohol (such as community days and carnivals) must refer to booking a park, pathway or greenspace.

Administration fee (non refundable)

Application will be sent to the appropriate park for review when this fee is paid. Applicants will be contacted with payment instructions.

Rate: $26.25

After reviewing the application, the $26.25 special event administration fee will be requested. If your event is approved, an invoice will be sent to you for the field rental rate.

D-class rates

D and E-class fields are subject to a $10.50 administration fee, unless the total hourly rate exceeds $10.50.

For example, booking a D-class field for one hour at the minor rate costs $14.66 ($4.16 plus the $10.50 administration fee). However, if you book the field for three hours at the same rate, the total would be $12.48 ($4.16 x 3 hours), and the $10.50 administration fee would not apply since the total exceeds the minimum fee.

However, if you book the field for three hours at the same rate, the total would be $15.12 ($5.04 x 3 hours), and the $10.50 administration fee would not apply since the total exceeds the minimum fee.

Booking notes

  • Tournaments do not qualify for automatic renewals.
  • Check the Booking schedule section to confirm the due date to submit your special event, tournament and day camp application for priority consideration.
  • Although the regular season runs April 15 to Oct. 15, applications are still required for groups planning events or need to book times outside of normal permitted hours and dates, including weekdays (Mon - Fri) between 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. (non-public hours). You must apply on the playfield Public Day. Check the Booking schedule section to confirm the application deadline.
  • Tournament/day camp applications must be received a minimum of 30 days prior to your planned event to allow for processing and approval.
  • Tournaments must be booked as a tournament and are separate to your regular or renewal booking.
  • For maintenance requests on D and E-class playfields, please call 311.

Arrange a Portable Toilet

You need permission from The City of Calgary to install a Portable Toilet at a D or E-class playfield. Please complete an application for the 2026 season.

Tournament definition

A tournament is a competition that involves a number of teams and games, with the overall tournament winner determined depending on the combined results of these individual or team matches. A tournament takes place outside of regular league play and is specific to a duration of time. Tournaments can utilize single venues or multiple venues based on number of competitors and size of competition. A tournament must be scheduled over consecutive days, which will result in a title winner.

Special event definition

A special event is a one-time event that falls outside the regular season schedule or any event requesting non-standard facility usage. Special events are required to show proof of insurance at the time of application. The insurance must be associated with the organization or individual booking the event.  

Day camps definition

A day camps is a structured programs designed to provide participants with training, instruction and skill development. Day camps must be a minimum of a four-hour block, for a minimum four days a week.

Book your Tournament/day camp/event

Tournament, day camp and weekday booking requests prior to 6 p.m. (non-public hours) must be made by submitting a playfield application form. Complete the application form a minimum of 30 days prior to your planned event. Upon approval you will be sent a permit.
