Beyond the badge

Beyond the Badge is a dynamic, hands-on learning program that brings Community Peace Officers into the classroom to help Grade 9 students explore citizenship, community safety and real-world career skills. Students gain a deeper understanding of civic responsibility and what it means to contribute positively to their communities while developing teamwork, communication and critical-thinking skills. 

Through interactive lessons connected to Social Studies, English and Health curricula, students engage in meaningful discussions and activities that connect classroom learning to real community issues. The program also provides an opportunity to learn about the role Community Peace Officers play in supporting safe, vibrant communities.

About the program

Working in teams, students explore concepts of citizenship, community engagement and public safety while building confidence and strengthening connections within their school community. Throughout the program, students participate in a series of classroom activities before completing a culminating Peace Officer visit and mock interview experience. 

Designed to be engaging, approachable and impactful, Beyond the Badge helps students:

Booking information

Beyond the Badge is offered free of charge to Grade 9 classrooms. Teachers are encouraged to complete the program lessons and activities before scheduling the culminating Peace Officer classroom visit and mock interview experience. The final in-class visit requires approximately one hour.

Teacher resources

Teachers receive access to a comprehensive, ready-to-use manual developed by certified educators and Community Peace Officers. The manual includes lesson plans, activities and supporting materials needed to deliver the program successfully in the classroom. 

Resources are designed to support smooth classroom delivery while helping students prepare for the final Peace Officer visit and interview activity.
