Earth Day in Calgary

Earth Day is a global event held annually on April 22. More than six million Canadians will join people in more than 190 countries to participate in activities to protect the environment. Earth Day is a day of civic participation and action, and the theme for 2022 is Invest in our Planet. has 52 actions and tips to make a difference.

At The City of Calgary, we are committed to implementing the Environment Strategy approved in July 2021 and delivering on Council’s Foundation for 2023-2026 including climate resilience. Calgary is a city that recognizes the climate emergency and does its part to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. A community that can manage the impacts of severe weather events; reduce emissions; build our green economy and play an active role in climate innovation.

Calgary joins Calgary City Nature Challenge

The City of Calgary is happy to partner with City Nature Challenge Calgary, back for the fourth year! Join fellow Citizen Scientists to smash our goal of 10,000 observations during the challenge!  It's easy to do, plus your observations have a real-world impact!  

Take photos of urban flora and fauna April 29 - May 2, 2022, then share them to iNaturalist. Look for nature in your yard, neighborhoods around the city, and local parks. Explore anywhere in Calgary and showcase our city’s biodiversity. Any photos taken April 29 - May 2 and shared to iNaturalist before May 8 will be included automatically in the global City Nature Challenge competition. Check out this video to learn more.
