Earth Day in Calgary

Earth Day is a global event held every year on April 22. More than 6 million Canadians join people in more than 190 countries to take part in activities that protect the environment. Earth Day is a day of civic participation and action, and the theme for 2023 is Invest in our Planet and Earth Day shares 52 ways to invest on their website.

We are committed to the Environment Strategy approved in July 2021 and delivering on Council’s Foundation for 2023-2026 including climate resilience at The City.

We are committed to doing our part to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius and achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. We strive to build a healthy, vibrant and green city for all who live, work and play here.

Calgary joins Calgary City Nature Challenge

We are happy to partner with the City Nature Challenge, back for its fifth consecutive year! You’re invited to join your fellow citizen scientists to shatter our goal of 10,000 observations during the challenge. It's easy to do and your observations have a real-world impact as the data is open and shared across the world!

Explore anywhere in Calgary and showcase our city’s biodiversity! Check out this video to learn more.

Look for nature in your yard, neighborhoods around the city, and local parks from April 28 - May 1, 2023. Take photos of wild organisms such as plants, fungi, insects, birds, and mammals! Upload your photos to iNaturalist by May 7 to help boost Calgary’s participation in the global City Nature Challenge competition.
