Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Do I need to apply for the SNA program?
Please refer to the enclosed Government of Alberta information sheet for details about the Special Needs Assistance (SNA) for Seniors program or visit alberta.ca/seniors-special-needs-assistance. If you have questions about your specific situation, please contact the Government of Alberta directly at 1-877-644-9992.
What if I am not eligible for the SNA program?
Seniors living in Calgary can call 403-SENIORS (403-736-4677) or 211, to learn more about services they may be eligible for.
Why was this decision made?
Calgary is currently the only municipality in Alberta that plays a role in administering this provincially funded program. As the program has grown over the years, it has become more complex for The City to manage and required City tax dollars to help run it.
Moving to the same system used across Alberta allows The City to focus on its core municipal responsibilities while ensuring eligible seniors continue to have access to provincial support.
Is The City’s Fair Entry program ending?
No. The City continues to offer a range of free, low-cost and rebate programs to Calgarians living with low-income. Visit calgary.ca/FairEntry to review programs that you may be eligible for.
