There are numerous programs, services, and initiatives that support seniors in Calgary. Here you can find information on these programs and in the Age-Friendly Calgary monthly newsletters.

Key Information resources for older adults


  • Elder Abuse brochure - Provides important information about the different forms of abuse, how to report a concern and how to get information or support. The brochure has been translated in 10 different languages and can be downloaded and shared as needed.

  • Calgary Missing Older Adult Resource Guide - A tool to support vulnerable older adults who may be at risk of going missing. The guide incorporates prevention tips, preparedness in the event someone does go missing, available resources and tips for community members if they find someone that has gone missing.

Age-Friendly Transportation Services


  • Calgary Transit Access (also known as Access Calgary) - provides door-to-door transportation services for Calgarians with disabilities through an eligibility process and doctors referral.
  • Seniors Transit Pass - annual transit pass that enables individuals 65 years and older to ride Calgary Transit at a reduced rate.
  • Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) Calgary - Wheelchair Accessible Taxis are available through a central dispatch service and includes all wheelchair accessible taxis operating in Calgary. This is an on-demand service, priced at regular taxi metered rates.​​​​​

Home Support


  • Housing options tool – Individuals, family members or older adult service providers can use this tool to help determine housing options. 
  • Seniors Services Home Maintenance  - This program helps low-income seniors to live safely in their homes by providing grass-cutting, snow removal, and light housekeeping.
  • Property Tax Assistance Program - Financial assistance to low-income homeowners who see an increase in their property tax. If you are a residential property owner experiencing financial hardship, you may be eligible for a credit on your property tax account through the council-approved 2005 Residential Property Tax Social Support Program.
  • Preparing for an emergency - Being prepared before disaster strikes is the best way to manage an emergency situation. For an older adult, emergency planning may require some additional thought. Read some tips that will help you start planning for an emergency.

Active Aging


  • Seniors’ Week & Active Aging Activities - Seniors' Week is a celebration to acknowledge the contributions of seniors in Calgary. Calgary Recreation hosts a number of free drop-in classes and events during Active Aging Week.
  • Recreation Program registration - browse the available programs and register
  • Recreation Fee Assistance - available for Calgary residents in financial need to help make recreation more affordable.
  • Gentle Fitness – these classes have been created for older adults or those recovering from injury or experiencing chronic health conditions.
  • City of Calgary Recreation’s Active Aging Strategy – our commitment to get older Calgarians more active and creative more often.
