Guidelines

What to Submit

  • Checklist #18 - Rainwater harvesting
    • Please note: The "Comprehensive guide for rainwater harvesting as a stormwater best management practice", referenced in the Rainwater harvesting guidelines published by Development and Building Approvals (DBA) is currently under development.
    • Should more information pertaining to the Guide be required, inquiries can be sent to Bert van Duin at bert.vanduin@calgary.ca. Once the Guide is completed, an industry bulletin will be released.

New Stormwater Reports

All Stormwater Management Report (SWMR) submissions must contain the full report with all required checklists, information, and stamps for review. If any information or required attachments are missing, the submission will be rejected. Partial applications will not be accepted.

For staggered Subdivision Construction Drawing (CD) and SWMR submissions, (e.g. one will be submitted at a later date),there is the ability to synchronize the SWMR to the CD by including the CD number (when available) with the SWMR submission, as well as within the body of the report.

For Private Site SWMR submissions, a Development Permit (DP) decision is required prior to submission of a Private Site Stormwater Management Report. Not all private sites require stormwater management reports. Direction will be given with the associated DP application.

Amendments and Revised Stormwater Management Reports

Amendments to Subdivision and Private Site SWMRs will be assigned New Report IDs. The applicant is expected to indicate the previously approved report in the SWMR submission email as well as within the report body itself for synchronization purposes.

Final Stormwater Management Report submission requirements

To ensure the available SWMRs on City Online are the most recently approved version, applicants are required to submit a clean copy (Final SWMR) within 15 business days after the No Objections Letter has been received for any New Report or Revised Report.

The clean copy of the Final SWMR must meet the following requirements:

  • The date on the clean copy must match the date on the report cover.
  • The appropriate SWMR checklist certified by a professional engineer must be included.
  • A copy of the No Objections letter is required to be attached as the first page.
  • All previous comments and requirements are to be addressed and incorporated into the report; do not include mark-ups. This includes all updates to drawings, models, etc.
  • For Revised SWMRs, the most recently approved version of the report, prior to the revision, is to be included as an Appendix.
  • All relevant correspondence should be included as an appendix.

How to submit

To improve the customer’s experience, intake of Stormwater Management Reports (SWMRs) will be transitioned out of POSEIDONOnline to a new web tool. To support this transition, there will be interim changes to the submission and review processes.  The transition period is expected to occur from December 2025 to approximately Q2 2026, at which time we expect the new online submission process to be in place.

Please refer to the December 2025 Industry Bulletin for further details on how to submit reports during this transition. Not following the submission process outlined in the bulletin may risk delays in getting the submission processed.
