Dear Code of Conduct,
 
I am a leader and have heard that an employee working out in the field may be under the influence of a substance and is unfit for work. What do I do? Should I have the employee drive back to the yard so I can talk with him in a private space?

Thanks for asking for advice. No – please don’t have the employee drive back to the yard as if he or she is unfit they are putting themselves and the public at risk. Instead you can do one of the following:
 
  • Contact the employee and tell him to remain where he is as you need to meet with him. Then you go out and have a discussion. You may want to bring another person with you.

OR

  • Contact the employee and tell him to remain where he or she is as you need to meet. Contact Corporate Security and have them go to the employee to have the initial discussion. Corporate Security can help you if you haven’t taken the training on this or if the employee is acting in a disruptive manner.
