Residential waste services

The City of Calgary provides residential waste services for Calgarians to responsibly manage their household waste. Working together to reuse, recycle and compost, we can keep our communities clean and reduce our overall waste. 

Cart programs

Single-family homes are provided a set of blue, black and green carts that work together to handle most household waste. 

  • Blue cart

    For recyclable materials like paper and packaging.

  • Green cart

    For compostable materials like food and yard waste.

  • Black cart

    For garbage materials that can no longer be used or diverted.

Free residential waste programs

The City of Calgary provides additional free waste programs to help deal with specialty household waste. Some programs may be seasonal and only available during specific dates.

  • Mulch pickups

    Pickup free mulch year-round to use in your gardens.

  • Compost giveaways

    Pickup free Green Cart compost in the spring (seasonal dates apply).
